Inner Soul

2016

Prismacolor

A surreal portrait I created for my second year in the VASE competition. Idea was a portrait of a woman with the top layer of her skin chipping off to reveal her inner soul which are represented by unusual patterns. Mediums used were graphite and Prismacolor (color pencil). Starting with an outline of the woman and an arch background (as I did not want a plain background). Choice of color placement came in along the way, mainly using complementary color schemes like red and greens, and grayscale of the exposed areas of the character to help them stand out.
